Flash Flood EMERGENCY Issued for Beaumont Metro in Far Southeast Texas

A particularly dangerous and emergent flood situation is underway in far Southeast Texas. Ten to fifteen inches of rain has fallen in the past several hours in Beaumont, Vidor, Mauriceville, southwest to Winnie and into eastern Liberty county. Additional heavy rainfall continues in the area with hourly rainfall rates of three to six inches per hour occurring. We also note heavy storms firing back as far west as The Woodlands in the northern Houston metro. That activity will slowly move east into the Golden Triangle over the coming hours. That activity will also begin producing heavy rainfall and potential flash flooding in the northeastern Houston metro. Conditions will likely remain the same or become worse for the next several hours – probably through the sunrise (at least).

Flash flood emergencies are rare and only issued for the most extreme flood events. For example, numerous emergencies were issued during Harvey in 2017. This event is much, much more localized than Harvey. There is a severe threat to human life and catastrophic damage from a flash flood is imminent, or ongoing with water rescues underway. Do NOT travel in the most severely impacted regions until conditions improve. Numerous roadways are underwater and you may not be able to see them given the time of night. Travel only if in an emergency situation or if needed to evacuate.
