Tornado Watch Issued for North Texas & Northeast Texas until 8 PM

A new tornado watch has been issued for portions of North Texas and Northeast Texas. This watch is in effect until 8 PM. I expect it’ll be trimmed from west to east as storms progress off to the east. Stephenville, Fort Worth, Denton, Sherman, Greenville, Corsicana, Canton, Paris, Tyler, Gilmer, Linden, and Texarkana are a few towns included. A tornado watch means conditions are favorable for the development of severe thunderstorms capable of producing all modes of severe weather. That includes large hail, damaging winds, isolated tornadoes, and localized flash flooding.

Storms will move from west to east this afternoon. The primary threat will be with the storms currently moving east into the D/FW Metroplex. However, we will have to watch for additional storms to fire up ahead of that line. Those would have a higher threat of producing tornadoes – if they develop.
