Winter Weather Advisory expanded into East Texas Tonight

A winter weather/travelers advisory has been expanded into much of East Texas. This advisory runs this evening through 9 AM on Saturday. The same advisory is in place across southern North Texas, portions of Central Texas, and for the eastern Hill Country. Winter precipitation is expected to end across most of the eastern Hill Country and around the Austin metro not long after dinner-time. At this time we are not expecting accumulations or travel issues in the immediate D/FW Metroplex, but some sleet/snow can’t be ruled out overnight.

A mix of winter precipitation is possible across southern North Texas this evening through early Saturday morning. That activity will move into East Texas overnight and through the morning hours on Saturday. Widespread sleet and snow accumulations are not expected. Small bands of heavier sleet could result in brief, localized sleet accumulations on grassy surfaces along with bridges, overpasses, and less-traveled roadways. Accumulations won’t last long, but that slushy sleet could make for slick conditions until it completely melts.

All winter precipitation will come to an end by 9 AM Saturday. All rain is expected with our next precipitation event Saturday night through Wednesday. You can see the forecast for that round in this morning’s Texas Weather Roundup.
