Winter Weather/Travel Advisory for the Texas Panhandle for Sunday – Monday Morning

The first Winter Weather Advisory of the season goes into effect at 10am tomorrow morning for the Texas panhandle. A strong cold front will arrive early tomorrow morning with light precipitation in the forecast for much of the day Sunday into early Monday. Most of the recent forecast model runs have shown an overall decrease in the expected amount of rain and drizzle which will make accumulating snow less of a possibility than was forecast just a few days ago. The best chance for accumulating snow will be across the far northern Texas panhandle up into the OK panhandle. Nevertheless, any amount of precipitation falling Sunday through Sunday night will likely freeze and generate hazardous driving conditions. Freezing drizzle may be the primary precipitation mode. While freezing drizzle usually results in only a trace to a few hundreds of an inch of ice accumulation, it only takes a trace to turn bridges and roadways into skating rinks.

As always…quite interesting to see Winter Weather advisories on one end of the state with Tornado threats on the other. That’s Texas weather for ya!
