Flash Flood Threats Continue Today for South/Southwest Texas – Warm and Humid with Pop Up Showers For The Week Ahead

The tropical disturbance plaguing south Texas the past couple of days will begin to shift west later today and tomorrow. This will bring to an end the chances for widespread rain and flash flooding by tomorrow and return us to a pattern more typical of late summer across the region.  But for the remainder of today and through the evening hours, risks for periods of heavy rainfall and flash flooding across much of south and southwest Texas will continue as additional rain falls on already saturated areas.

The overall forecast for the work week ahead calls for warm and humid conditions with temps hovering at or just a few degrees above normal. High pressure will dominate, but plenty of moisture at the surface and some weaknesses in the ridge will still allow for afternoon showers to develop.  Unfortunately, no strong cold fronts are looming on the horizon, but at least we won’t be 100+ degrees.  Let’s at least be grateful for that!  The daily coastal seabreeze will keep pop up afternoon showers in the forecast this week for the coastal plains and into central and eastern Texas.  Western Texas may see in increase in tropical moisture by the end of the week thanks to a disturbance expected to arrive along the Baja coast.  For much of the panhandle region, rain will be hard to come by until we get later into the week when a week frontal boundary will arrive and stall across the region.  For northwest and north central Texas, isolated showers and storms will remain in the forecast with chances increasing a bit towards the end of the work week.

As mentioned above, temps this week will hover right at or a few degrees above normal…so nothing too extreme.  There will be plenty of moisture around, so by mid-afternoon each day, it will feel pretty sticky outside for most folks.  Increasing cloud cover towards the end of the week will help to keep a lid on daily highs. All in all, not a bad week despite the continued humid conditions.
