Slightly Cooler with Rain Chances To Start The Work Week

Rain chances and slightly cooler temps will be highlights for the work week ahead.  A front will arrive tomorrow and sweep through most of the state by Tuesday which will help to knock temps down a few degrees through the middle of the week.  It won’t be “cold” by any stretch of the definition, but we’ll see conditions cooling off from north to south as the front makes progress towards the coast.  Increasing rain chances will also be helpful in keeping us well below record highs.  Overall rainfall amounts this week do not look all that spectacular, but at this point, we’ll take what we can get.  For today, most of the rainfall expected will reside across north and northeast Texas as a band of rain across southern Oklahoma continues to drift south.  Additional storms may fire along the remnant outflow boundary across north and northeast Texas later this afternoon as we reach peak daytime heating.  Widespread severe weather is not anticipated, but the Storm Prediction Center has placed much of far northern Texas (north of DFW), northeast Texas and much of the Texas panhandle region under a Marginal Risk (Level 1) to cover the risk of one or two cells reaching severe limits this afternoon.  For the Texas Panhandle region…the main threat for strong to severe storms will arrive later this evening and overnight as as the aforementioned cold front arrives.

For Monday and Monday night, rain chances will be greatest across the central half of the state as the front continues to drift south and interact with greater heating and moisture ahead of it.  Again, widespread severe weather is not anticipated, so most of what falls is expected to be light and in the form of scattered rain showers.  Most of the rainfall across the central and southern portions of the state should be moving out by Tuesday night or early Wednesday.  After that, most of the state will remain on the dry side through the remainder of the work week.  The exception will be the Texas Panhandle region which will continue to see chances for showers and storms Tuesday night through Wednesday night.
