The Storm Prediction Center has upgraded portions of North Texas to a level 2 risk of severe weather. The primary risk time will be 1 PM through the evening hours. A level 1 ‘marginal’ risk is in place across Northeast Texas.

Large hail up to the size of golfballs will be the primary severe weather threat this afternoon. If the atmosphere destabilizes more than expected (due to more sunshine) the hail sizes could increase.

A tornado or two will be possible. Weak low-level shear should keep the tornado threat mitigated, but shear could increase by the late afternoon.

Storm coverage looks to remain isolated to widely scattered. Most folks won’t see thunderstorms and not everyone will receive severe weather.
