Tornado WATCH issued for Northeast Texas through 6pm

A Tornado WATCH has been issued for portions of eastern north central Texas and all of northeast Texas through 6pm this evening.  Cities included in the watch are : Paris, Sulphur Springs, Tyler, Longview, Mt. Pleasant, Marshall, Jefferson, New Boston and Texarkana and surrounding towns.  Large hail and damaging winds will be the main threat through the afternoon hours as storms increase in coverage and intensity this afternoon.  A few tornadoes are also likely…with one or two strong tornadoes possible.  Residents in the WATCH area need to keep a very close eye on the weather this afternoon.  Monitor local media and have a way to receive weather warnings via weather radio or smartphone alert app.

   The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a

   * Tornado Watch for portions of
     Central and Southern Arkansas
     Northwest Louisiana
     Southeast Oklahoma
     Northeast Texas

   * Effective this Saturday morning and evening from 1100 AM until
     600 PM CST.

   * Primary threats include...
     A few tornadoes likely with a couple intense tornadoes possible
     Widespread damaging winds likely with isolated significant gusts
       to 75 mph possible
     Isolated very large hail events to 2 inches in diameter possible

   SUMMARY...Thunderstorms will intensify over northeast Texas,
   spreading into parts of LA and AR this afternoon.  Supercells
   capable of tornadoes and damaging winds are possible throughout the
   watch area.
