Warming Trend Starts Tomorrow; Above-Average Temperatures by the Weekend

Light snow will remain possible this afternoon. Little in the way of accumulations are expected. Precipitation chances will dwindle by the early evening as an upper-level storm system overhead moves off to the east. It’ll be a cold and mostly cloudy day, but we should see skies start clearing from northwest to southeast tonight. By sunrise, we’ll see mostly clear skies with the exception of South Texas.

All of Texas should experience a freeze tonight. In fact, a hard freeze (below 28 degrees) is anticipated outside of the Rio Grande Valley. It’s going to be a cold and chilly night. Wind chills will tend to be in the single digits to the twenties. Happily, we’re going to start warming up tomorrow.

We begin the upward climb on the temperature roller-coaster on Wednesday. High temperatures will range from the lower 40s in Texoma and Northeast Texas up into the lower 50s in the Permian Basin, Concho Valley, Edwards Plateau, into the Hill Country, South-Central Texas, toward Deep South Texas. That’ll be a welcome warmup compared to the last couple of days.

Thursday morning will be another cold one across Texas with temperatures ranging from the upper teens to the lower 30s. Another freeze is expected for most, but the immediate coast may be able to stay just above freezing.

Temperatures will warm back to above-average by the weekend. Our next storm system looks to arrive on Sunday. At this time it appears that scattered showers will be possible along and east of Interstate 35, mainly from Texoma south to Central Texas – east into Northeast Texas into the Piney Woods of East Texas. We’ll be able to refine potential rainfall amounts and overall precipitation coverage once we get closer. At this time rainfall amounts – for those who receive any – look to be under one inch. Temperatures will be well above freezing, so only liquid precipitation is anticipated.
