Simulated Radar through 5am Wednesday

A band of light to moderate rain is currently stretched from about Wichita Falls down to Sonora. This band will continue to drift east this afternoon into central and north central Texas. Rainfall amounts will vary depending on where the heaviest bands of rain set up this afternoon, but overall accumulations are expected to be light and under 1/2 inch for most.  A few lightning strikes may be possible, but severe weather threats are very low. We have a Marginal Risk (Level 1) in place for the coastal plains this afternoon from the Houston area all the way down to Brownsville.  Most of the storm activity so far today has been offshore, but coverage is expected to increase and move inland by this afternoon and through the evening and nighttime hours and interact with a stalled cold front across the region.  A few of the storms later today could become severe with mainly a small hail, lightning and damaging wind threat primarily across the coastal bend region.  The tornado threat is low, but is non-zero…especially late tonight…so have a way to receive weather warnings overnight should any be activated in your area.  Tomorrow, we’ll still see chances for rain across southeast Texas which will move out of the area by early Thursday.  Once we’re done with that, we dry out and heat back up through the weekend. Temps by Thursday will likely be a good 20 degrees above average, especially areas west of the dryline west of the I-35 corridor.  Looking ahead…another cold front will likely arrive by the middle of next week, but timing and how cold it will get is still a bit variable in the long-range models.  At any rate, warm weather lovers will enjoy the forecast for the next 5 days or so!
