Continued Dry Conditions with a Warming Trend This Week

Dry and pleasant weather will continue across the state this week with the return of above average highs as we get closer to next weekend.  Today’s highs across the western half of the state will be at or slightly above normal for this time of the year while highs across the eastern half of the state will remain slightly below normal. The eastern half of the state will benefit from a few more days of below average temps as the remnants of Irma move into Florida and the southeastern US with her counter-clockwise circulation generating a cooler northeast flow across this region for a few days.  For the western half of the state, high pressure will begin to push into the region keeping temps a bit warmer.  Once Irma’s remnants begin to shift east by the end of the work week, we’ll see the ridge expand to encompass more of our state and we’ll see highs across the eastern half of the state increase as well.  We’re not quite done with Summer just yet with highs possibly reaching the upper 90s with some 100s scattered about by the end of this week, but with lower humidity levels remaining in place, the heat will not feel quite as oppressive.  Rain chances this week look slim to none which is great news for south central and southeast Texas still dealing with receding flood waters from Harvey.

Tropics Update:  Category 4 Hurricane Irma made landfall at 8:10am CDT across Cudjoe Key in the lower Florida Keys and is expected to make landfall again along the southwestern coast of Florida later this afternoon. She’s making her northward turn and is expected to ride up the western coast of Florida through Monday.  No impacts to Texas are expected other than generating cooler conditions across the eastern half of the state for the next several days.
