August 26th 3:15AM Hurricane Harvey Update

Hurricane Harvey continues to slowly track northwest across the Coastal Bend and Coastal Plains this morning. At 3 AM the center of Harvey was located 5 miles northwest of Refugio, 25 miles north/northwest of Rockport, and 35 miles south/southwest of Victoria. Maximum sustained winds are at 110 MPH with higher gusts. A continued drawdown of wind speeds can be expected through the day as Harvey slowly moves northwest. Severe damage has now been reported in both Rockport and now in Refugio. I really am afraid to see what kind of damage first light will reveal, plus the damage we simply don’t know about yet. We don’t know how many folks may have been injured or killed, but all we can do is hope that it wasn’t many. Harvey’s storm surge will continue impacting the Middle Texas Coast and Southeast Texas coasts as we get closer to high tide. Isolated tornadoes will remain a likelihood across Southeast Texas this morning – spreading north into the Brazos Valley by mid-morning. The next update will be at 4 AM – which will feature a comprehensive forecast update from the National Hurricane Center.
