8/25 8PM: Western Eyewall of Major Hurricane Harvey Moving Ashore

Major Hurricane Harvey’s western eyewall is now 8 miles east of Rockport and 6 miles northeast of Port Aransas. The official landfall of Harvey will not be until the center of the eye crosses inland – so we’re still a few hours away from that. Harvey seems to be moving northwest at about 7 MPH now – slowing down over the last few hours. Hurricane force winds are impacting Port Aransas and Rockport. Sustained winds over 100 MPH are being reported in Port Aransas. Harvey’s eye may make it up toward Victoria later tonight – with a threat of devastating wind damage if that occurs. Substantial storm surge is occurring along the Middle Texas Coast – with bayside flooding across South Texas. We also note multiple tornado warnings with the outer feeder bands moving inland across Southeast Texas – this will continue all night.
