Storms Likely across Southeastern Half of Texas This Weekend

Showers and storms continue to develop this morning well out ahead of a cold front which is slowly making its way across parts of north Texas and west central Texas.  The front is currently runs in a line from around Dennison, through the DFW metroplex then down towards Brownwood and across areas just south of the I-20 corridor across west central Texas.  This front is not a fast mover and it will likely be Sunday before we see the front move into south central Texas where it will stall and dissipate.  Locations behind the front today will see very pleasant conditions and much drier air.  Locations ahead of the front…particularly across portions of southwest TX/Hill Country region (west and northwest of Austin and San Antonio), east Texas and the northern portions of Southeast Texas (north of the Houston Area) will continue to see the threat of strong to severe storms this afternoon and evening.   The storms well ahead of the front this morning appear to be forming on the outflow boundary of storms which rumbled through the region overnight.  The storms currently across the Hill Country region should move out of the region this morning, but redevelopment later in the day is expected as the actual cold front begins to push into the region.  The Storm Prediction Center has placed a portion of the Hill Country and much of southwest Texas under a Slight Risk of severe storms this afternoon with isolated damaging winds and hail being the main threats.

These storms will also bring very heavy rain with an isolated flooding threat mainly for areas around and near San Antonio which could see 1-3 inches and isolated 4+ inch amounts. Behind the front, drier air will move in and we’ll see pleasant temperatures and only slight chances for rain showers mainly along and south of the I-20 corridor. Tomorrow looks to be a repeat of today with the frontal boundary stalled across south central Texas with strong to severe storms expected once again across portions of the Hill Country.
