West & West-Central TX – Severe Thunderstorm WATCH until 3am

A Severe Thunderstorm WATCH has been issued for portions of west and west central Texas until 3am Central Time.  Cities and towns included in the WATCH include Lamesa, Snyder, Big Spring, Midland/Odessa, Ft. Stockton, Sanderson, Haskell, Abilene, Sweetwater, San Angelo, and Ozona.   A squall line of storms is expected to develop along the dryline after 9pm within the WATCH area and track east overnight towards central and north central Texas. The line is expected to diminish in strength as we get into the morning hours; however, initial storm development along the squall line will carry the threat of large hail up to the size of tennis balls, damaging wind gusts up to 60mph and frequent lightning.  The tornado threat is on the low side, but is not completely out of the question.  If you’re in the WATCH area, have a way to receive weather warnings overnight should any be issued for your locations.  Below, we have a couple of graphics depicting how the radar my look between Midnight and 6am tomorrow.
