Scattered supercell thunderstorms will be possible during the evening hours along the TX/NM border west of Lubbock and Amarillo.  We’re currently monitoring one tornado warned cell west of Lubbock just north of Morton.  So far, no confirmation of a tornado with this particular storm as it moves northeast towards Sudan, Amherst and Littlefield, but the threat for tornadoes will increase this evening as the low level jet kicks up around and just after sunset.  Coverage of storms this evening across the risk area in the graphic below are expected to be scattered…so not everyone will see a threat for severe weather, but for those that do, there is a chance for tornados, very large hail…possibly exceeding 2 inches in diameter…and damaging winds.

A secondary line of storms is expected to form before midnight across far eastern New Mexico and spread east/northeast during the overnight and early morning hours across the panhandle and south plains region as additional moisture flows into the region.  Large hail and damaging wind gusts will be the main threats overnight; however, we cannot rule out an additional threat for tornadoes within some of the stronger cells.  Make sure you have your weather radio on overnight, or have another way to receive Warnings should any be issued for your area overnight.
