Abnormally Warm Today – Severe Weather Possible Sunday

Highs today overall will be a good 10 to 15 degrees above average for this time of the year.  Clouds across the eastern and northeastern regions today will be slow to clear out and will help to keep temps a bit cooler for these areas.  Further west, much warmer, sunnier and and breezier as we get into the afternoon.  Not really expecting much in the way of rain today, but we’ll see that change by late tomorrow and into Monday with widespread heavy rain expected mainly for areas along and east of the I-35 corridor.  The upper level low that will be generating the chance for rain has been trending faster across the region which means a quick frog-strangler Sunday night through Monday, then the rain chances clear out on Tuesday.

The threat for severe weather on Sunday is increasing.  The Storm Prediction Center has issued a Slight Risk for parts of north central Texas tomorrow afternoon and evening.  Isolated strong to severe storms with mainly a quarter size hail and gusty wind threat are expected by late afternoon west of the I-35 corridor.  As we head closer to sunset, we will see the activity increase reaching the I-35 corridor and impacting the Dallas/Ft. Worth metroplex just after dark.  The tornado threat is low, but non-zero, especially if a few more isolated cells can develop out ahead of the main line of storms as it drifts east tomorrow evening.  We will monitor the latest model data rolling in today and have another update out by later this evening and again tomorrow morning, so be sure to check back!
