Unusually Warm and Muggy Weather This Weekend

Unseasonably warm temps will dominate the forecast this weekend as high pressure dominates the forecast over the next several days.  Forecast highs today are ranging about 15 degrees above average across parts of the panhandle, 10 degrees above average across north and central Texas, and 5-7 degrees above average across the southern half of the state. It’s likely we’ll see a few high temperature records broken today and tomorrow. We’ll also be dealing with quite a bit of humidity ahead of the dryline which is expected to be positioned across the panhandle and down into far western Texas.  Rain chances will be slim this weekend and confined mainly to far southeast Texas where a few isolated showers may develop later this afternoon.

Lows tonight…warm and muggy and remaining well above average.  By this time of the year, we should be seeing lows drop into 40’s across the panhandle and low 50s across much of central and north Texas…but it looks like we’ll have to wait until the middle of next week when our next strong cold front arrives before we see those nice cool nights again.

This really warm and muggy weather pattern will continue into the middle of next week before we see our next strong cold front arrive.  Timing is a bit uncertain, but using a blend of the different forecast model solutions brings the front through the panhandle on Tuesday where it waits for a secondary push of cold air on Wednesday, through central Texas overnight into Thursday, then crossing the coast by mid-day on Thursday.  This front will have some good momentum, which means our coastal areas will actually benefit from this next front, and it will be bringing much drier and cooler air along with it.  We’ll see some rain chances arrive with the front, but right now, it looks pretty sparse. We will of course have more updates this coming week regarding rain and storm chances as we get closer to Wednesday!
