Warm and Mostly Dry For The Week Ahead

A squall line of storms moved through north central Texas this morning and is now moving into northeast Texas.  Nothing severe at this time, but it will bring brief period of wind and heavy rain to Athens, Tyler, Longview and Texarkana shortly.  For the remainder of the state, we’ll remain mostly rain free for the remainder of the day.  There is a small chance of spotty showers to develop in the wake of this morning’s storms across north Texas, but that will all depend on how quickly the atmosphere can recover from the overnight convection.  The Big Bend region also has a chance at seeing a few showers and storms this afternoon, but other than that, we remain dry.

Highs today will be above normal for this time of the year with Heat Index values in the low 100’s expected across south central and south Texas later this afternoon.

This trend of above normal temperatures continues through the work week ahead as high pressure builds over the state.  The first day of astronomical Fall begins this Thursday, but you wouldn’t know it with highs expected to be in the 90s all week.  Heat index values tomorrow could top 105 to 108 from Corpus Christi down to Brownsville…and we’ll likely see Heat Index values around 100 to 103 for Dallas, Waco Austin and College Station tomorrow as well.  Those uncomfortable Heat Index values will drop during the week however as drier air works its way in from the east. While still hot, we at least won’t be dealing with that muggy feeling.  The rainfall outlook for the week ahead is sparse at best.  It will be a good chance for west Texas to dry out a bit from the rain received last week. Right now, it looks like our next decent chance for rain won’t arrive until next weekend.
