Unsettled Weather Through Next Week; Weekend Looking Wet

081216_TxMap

Isolated showers are in progress this morning across Southeast Texas and in the eastern Texas Panhandle and West Texas. None of this activity is heavy this morning, but we will see an uptick later today as the first of many days of rain chances begin. We’ll be dealing with another very hot day across Texas. In fact this may end up being the hottest day so far this year across the eastern half of Texas. The forecast for D/FW is 104 but if clouds don’t develop as expected it may end up being even hotter. All the I-35 cities will top out near or above 100 degrees. Scattered thunderstorms are forecast this afternoon across the Permian Basin, Big Country, West Texas, and Northwest Texas. Isolated to widely scattered storms will continue today in Southeast Texas in association with an upper level low over Louisiana. Showers and thunderstorms, some containing heavy rain, will become more numerous tonight across the Permian Basin, Big Country, Northwest Texas, and North Texas.

The upper level high pressure is not forecast to become a player in our weather for the next seven to ten days. In its absence unsettled weather looks to continue through much of next week. Temperatures will remain near or below average for most and rain chances will remain highest across the eastern half of Texas. Specific day and night rain chances will vary depending on what happens the previous day. Regardless a fairly wet weekend and start of next week is forecast.

With increased clouds and rain chances a noticeable drop in temperatures is expected. For example here is what we’re forecasting for high temperatures on Monday thus far. The forecast will change as precipitation chances and locations get nailed down.
