The Storm Prediction Center has upgraded the central portion of the Texas Panhandle to an enhanced risk of severe weather – a level 3 out of 5. This enhanced risk is where confidence is highest that multiple intense supercells will move northeast with hail up to the size of baseballs and the possibility of tornadoes. A level 2 standard risk continues across all of the Texas Panhandle and much of the South Plains. Confidence is increasing that we may have a tornado threat increase after 7 PM this evening. If we have supercells remain discrete after sunset the tornado threat could become notable. Storm development is possible after 3 PM across the western Panhandle with those storms moving northeast. Additional storms may develop in the South Plains after 6 PM and move northeast towards Childress – those storms could also be quite severe. Paige and I are in Shamrock having lunch before continuing on to Dumas to stage for storms. We’ll post updates on social media as needed this afternoon.
