8 PM Red River Severe Weather Update; Severe Threat Increasing for D/FW

2016-03-23_19-52-57

Severe thunderstorms have quickly formed from Gainesville southwest to Decatur over the past 30 minutes. These storms are firing up on a dryline that is slowly moving east. Additional storm development is expected further southwest in Parker county over the next 30 minutes. Those new storms are likely to become severe as well. Large damaging hail up to the size of golfballs is possible. If we get more established supercellular characteristics some hail could approach 2″. Localized damaging winds are also possible as is a brief tornado. Storms are moving northeast but we should start to see the whole line make progress to the east. The strongest storms are likely to produce large hail and damaging winds in the D/FW Metroplex over the coming hours.
