Rain Chances Increase Later Today/Overnight

Rain chances pick up later today and during the overnight hours across the eastern 1/3rd of the state. Accumulations will not amount to much…generally less than 1/2 inch…and it looks like this will be our only chance of rain until we head into next weekend.  During the day today, just scattered showers expected on and off mainly east of I-35 and I-45.  As we head into the evening and overnight hours, a cold front will approach along with a piece of upper level energy which will ramp up the prospects for scattered showers across north and northeast Texas.  Accumulations will be generally less than 1/2 inch.

Highs today, once again above the average maximum temperatures expected in mid-February.  The weak cold front moving through later tonight will not have much of an impact on temps and we’ll continue to see above-average highs each day this week as high pressure builds in over the state.

Highs Today Lows Tonight

A Look Ahead:  We are beginning to monitor a potential change in our upper level pattern which may usher better rain chances into the state by the end of this week and into the following week.  There’s still differences in the long-range models…one being more bullish with the rain chances than the other…but they are both consistent with the potential for change which is also supported in the Climate Prediction Center Outlooks below.
