Winter Weather Advisory – Western Texas Panhandle

A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for the western half of the Texas panhandle beginning at 11pm tonight and continuing through 6pm Tuesday evening.  Cities within the Advisory area include Boise City, Keyes, Dalhart, Stratford, Hartley, Channing, Dumas, Vega, Amarillo, Hereford and Canyon.  Total snowfall accumulations between 1 and 4 inches are possible, with the greatest snowfall amounts to the west, and lesser to the east.  Blowing winds will also add to the unpleasantness, and aid in the development of snow drifts and poor driving conditions once winds begin to gust between 30 and 40mph tomorrow morning.  Road surfaces are quite warm, so for areas expecting lesser amounts of snowfall, the roads should not be all that bad…just the typical slick spots on bridges.  For the western and southwestern portions of the panhandle where accumulations between 2-4 inches is expected, roadways are likely to be impacted, so drive with caution, and be sure to check road conditions and local media before heading out the door tomorrow morning!  Good news is, Winter returns for just one day then we’ll be back up to the mid-50s across the area by Wednesday afternoon.
