10:15am – Winter Weather Threat Continues for the Texas Panhandle

amarillo_radar

Radar loop as of 10:00am

Winter precipitation will continue to impact the panhandle region today as additional snow works its way east across the area.  Wraparound precipitation from the departing low pressure will drop additional winter precipitation across the region today with a rather tight gradient of who gets snow and who doesn’t. The northwest portion of the panhandle remains under a Winter Storm Warning until 6pm today, while the central panhandle region remains under a Winter Weather Advisory through 6pm as well.  Areas under Winter Storm Warnings have already seen accumulations around 3 inches overnight, with an additional 4 to 7 inches likely before this system moves out tonight.  Most of the reports coming in from the central panhandle are between 1 to 1.5 inches, with just light snow/rain mix further to the south/southeast.  Travel will remain hazardous across the region today with periods of gusty winds generating pockets of blowing snow and near whiteout conditions.  For the latest on road conditions, be sure to check the TXDot Website  http://drivetexas.org/   for details.
