11pm Update: Whiteout conditions are being reported across the southwestern Texas panhandle and approaching the Lubbock metro area which is currently experiencing a mix of freezing rain and sleet. For the Amarillo metro, snow is on its way from the southwest and should begin impacting the area within the next half hour. Winds are howling…with gusts averaging around 55mph and one recent gust exceeding 60mph out near Dalhart. Sporadic power outages have been reported around Midland/Odessa and outlying communities. Hopefully everyone is off the roadways and getting hunkered down for the duration of this event as conditions will continue to deteriorate overnight. If you need roadway information, please see www.drivetexas.org for the latest updates. We will not be providing constant updates on road conditions throughout this event.
