As a boundary just south of the DFW metroplex begins to lift north this evening and overnight, rain chances will increase from south to north across north central Texas.  Anywhere from 3 to 8 inches of rain has already fallen across this region since early this morning. Highest totals so far today have been across Navarro and Limestone counties which has received over 10 inches of rain in a number of spots, and northeast of the metroplex across parts of Hunt County which has also received upwards of 10 inches. Patches of heavy rain continues to build southwest of the metroplex while the large area of rain just south of the metro area expands northward.   This is expected to be the trend the rest of this evening with an additional 3 to 5 inches of rain likely across the area between now and late Saturday.  Additional flooding will be almost a certainty.  We wanted rain…well, we certainly got it!

Here’s a look at how the radar might look like over the next 15 hours.  Like we’ve been saying, no model has shown 10% accuracy with this system, but this should give you an idea of what areas are expected to be impacted.

Short range model output has some impressive rainfall accumulations between now and early tomorrow morning.  This will be on top of what was received earlier today which makes this a critical situation with I-45 south of DFW closed between Rice and Corsicana, and many other smaller roadways in the area either closed or severely compromised due to local flooding issues.  If you are already experiencing heavy rain in your area, and you do not have an urgent need to travel anywhere, please stay put.  Trying to travel on flooded roadways at night is extremely dangerous as you can’t see what you’re driving into.  If you come upon flood barricades, do NOT try to go past them.  If you’re heading out of town early tomorrow and traveling any of the major highways, be sure to check the TXDot site for road closure listings.  www.drivetexas.org
