Lots of nice rain to be had across north Texas today.  I know my yard was excited because it hadn’t seen rain since July.  Overall, rainfall amounts this morning varied from 1/3 inch to over 2 inches in some areas across north central and northeast Texas.  North Richland Hills in Tarrant County was the big winner this morning with over 3 inches reported.

As of this writing, the cold front is currently oriented northeast to southwest from near Sherman down to Mineral Wells, Abilene and through Midland/Odessa.  As the front continues to slowly drift south overnight, rain chances will continue…mainly for areas along and south of the I-20 corridor through the overnight hours.  The loss of daytime heating will diminish severe chances, but there is still a piece of upper level energy which may muster up a few stronger cells south of the DFW metro area overnight. 

Lows tonight, fairly seasonal for most.  The panhandle will be the exception with temps dropping down into the upper 50s to low 60s by early morning.  Could see some patchy fog in a few places across the central and eastern panhandle, but other than that, pleasant and mild.  Highs tomorrow, seasonal and in the upper 80’s to low 90’s for most.  Warmest temps will be out ahead of the front across south Texas.  

Rain and storm chances will be on the increase across the mid to upper coast tomorrow, especially during the mid-day hours.  Locally heavy rainfall between 1 and 2 inches is possible…along with the threat of flash flooding and slick roadways.

Looking ahead…we continue to watch for a second and much stronger cold front to arrive on Friday which will bring pleasant and drier conditions to a good portion of the state over the weekend.  Highs in the 70s and 80s will be likely, with lows dipping down into the 50s for parts of the panhandle and western north Texas by Sunday morning.  We will have another chance at rain and thunderstorms ahead of this front as well.  More details on that as we get closer to Friday!
