Your Sunday Forecast! More Coastal Rain and a SUPERMOON

Good morning and happy Sunday everyone!  Temps will once again be a few degrees above normal by this afternoon, and will likely stay that way through most of this coming week.  Rain chances will be on the increase along the coast today as an upper level disturbance hangs around overhead.  And if you missed David’s post late yesterday evening, we have a little mischief expected to develop in the Gulf later this week.  More on that in just a bit.   First…the temps today…warm and in the low to mid 90s across most of the state.  Rain and cloud cover will continue to keep things cooler and in the low 80s across southeast Texas.  The panhandle will be a few degrees warmer today and in the low 80s versus the 70s experienced there yesterday.  Humidity will be on the increase across central and northern portions of the state the next few days, so get out and enjoy the slightly drier air today because it will really begin to feel muggy once again by tomorrow.  Lows tonight drop down into the 50s across the panhandle with 60s elsewhere across the state.

Rain chances today will affect coastal and southeastern Texas today.  No severe weather expected, but a few stronger cells will likely produce quite a bit of cloud to ground lightning, brief heavy rain and some gusty winds.  Check out the simulated radar loop below for how rain chances are expected to evolve this afternoon and early evening.

And just in case you haven’t heard…there’s a SUPERMOON ECLIPSE happening tonight!  I’ll be out photographing it…with fingers crossed that we don’t get a bunch of clouds streaming up from the south to obscure the view.  Below is a forecast for cloud cover during the eclipse for those planning to watch or photograph it!

As for the mischief developing in the Gulf…currently, we have a little disturbance gathering steam over the Yucatan which is expected to develop into a weak tropical storm within the next couple of days. Unfortunately, it’s not expected to become an impact for much of Texas…maybe just the upper coast closest to Louisiana…but that looks to be about it at this time.  By and far, the biggest weather related news item we’ll be watching this week will be the potential arrival of a strong cold front by next weekend.  Currently, only one of our long range models is really showing this pattern change, but we’ll continue to monitor and keep you up to date this week!  I don’t know about you, but I’m ready for another front and some sweater weather!
