Tonight's Forecast + Rain Chances Shift Southwest Tomorrow

Once the sun goes down this evening, most of today’s convection will begin to die off and we’ll have a relatively quiet and warm night, typical of Texas in late August.  Between now and then, expect ongoing clusters of showers and storms to continue pushing south/southwest across parts of western north Texas and down into the Permian Basin and Trans Pecos region before they dissipate after sunset. Could see a few lingering scattered to spotty showers across western north Texas into the Permian Basin, but other than that, pretty quiet.  Lows tonight will be seasonably warm and humid for most areas with lows in the 70s.  Parts of the panhandle and the mountainous regions of western Texas with drier air will see temps drop down into the 60s.

Tomorrow, we’ll see slightly drier air encroach from the east which will allow highs to reach a few degrees above seasonal with highs ranging in the mid 90s across northern, central and eastern/southeastern Texas with 100s expected to dot the west/southwestern Texas regions.  Heat Index values across parts of south and southwest Texas tomorrow will likely get into the 100 to 105 degrees range, but only for a few hours during the mid to late afternoon.

Rain chances tomorrow will be highly influenced by the location of residual outflow boundaries from this evening’s storms, better moisture, and the strength of a small upper level implus expected to round the eastern periphery of high pressure ridge centered to our west by tomorrow afternoon.   Northern Texas will likely see a break from afternoon storms with most of the chances shifting south and southwest across west central, southwest and southeast Texas along the old, diffuse frontal boundary and outflow from today’s storms.  Thursday and Friday look to be mostly rain-free for the state with the exception of the panhandle which will see a weak cold front arrive late Thursday into Friday to help stir things up a bit.
