Storms in the Forecast Today

Chance of rain/storms tonight

Folks in parts of Northeast Texas west to Collin County are getting woken up by heavy thunderstorms this morning. These storms are moving south and are being caused by an outflow boundary. As that boundary continues to move south we should see storms continue to develop along it this morning into the afternoon hours. As such we expect scattered storms across East, Central, and Southeast Texas today. Like Monday a few storms may become briefly severe with hail and 50-60 MPH localized wind gusts. Otherwise frequent cloud to ground lightning and locally heavy rain are a good bet if you end up under a storm today. Storm coverage will decrease after sunset although isolated thunderstorms will remain possible into the morning hours on Wednesday.

Temperatures will top out in the mid 90s to just over 100 degrees today. Heat index values of 3 to 7 degrees hotter than the air temperatures are probable where humidity values are highest today. The good news is that those who end up with a storm should also experience a cool off with rain-cooled outflow.

Temperatures will be quite comfortable in Northeast Texas tonight with lows in the lower 60s. You can thank Arkansas for the cooler air seeping in. Otherwise everyone else is going to experience the usual forecast for an August night. Humid with low temperatures in the 70s. Have a great Tuesday!
