Back to School Texas Weather Roundup!

Good Monday Morning! Numerous school districts start back up today so make sure you get the kiddos off safely! I’m happy to report we have no major weather issues that will interfere with school-related activities this morning. Temperatures are near seasonal averages for a late August morning. Nothing too cold or too hot, although as is typical the humidity could be a little less oppressive.

East and Northeast Texas could see a few popup thunderstorms this afternoon as we get into peak heating. Severe weather is not expected and only a 20 to 30 percent chance of rain exists this afternoon. By tonight we could continue to see isolated to widely scattered storms along and east of Interstate 35 across Northeast, East, and Southeast Texas into the Brazos Valley. Temperatures will top out in the 85 to 102 degree range with the lowest in the Panhandle and highest in Deep South Texas. Heat index values will be 5 to 7 degrees hotter than the air temperature in the most humid areas.

Temperatures will fall back into the 60s and 70s tonight. Folks in Dumas, Texas up in the Panhandle are forecast to drop down to 63 degrees while Galveston won’t get below 81 tonight. Everyone else will be somewhere in between – averaging 70 to 76 degrees.
