Upgrade to "Slight Risk" for Severe Weather This Evening – TX Panhandle

The Storm Prediction Center has upgraded to Slight Risk across parts of the central and western Texas panhandle this evening.  Upper level energy, moving over New Mexico this afternoon and into the panhandle region this evening, is expected to spawn at least a few severe thunderstorms, mainly between 6 and 10pm this evening across eastern New Mexico and into the western and central panhandle.  Large hail and damaging winds will be the primary threats.  Storms are expected to develop somewhat isolated at first, close to the TX/NM border, then quickly congeal into a mass and head east/southeast across the panhandle with potential for a mesoscale convective system (MCS) formation overnight across the southeastern panhandle, south rolling plains and possibly western north Texas.  We’ll continue to keep an eye on things this evening and bring you the latest as things develop!
