Some strong to severe thunderstorms will be possible this afternoon and this evening across the Texas Panhandle. An east/west oriented line of storms will likely fire up by late this afternoon. Stronger storms in this individual storms in this line may be capable of producing large hail and destructive wind gusts. The tornado threat is quite low and we don’t expect a tornado issue. Storms will move south into West Texas and towards the Red River Valley tonight with a continued threat for strong wind gusts.

Isolated to widely scattered popup storms are also expected along the coast today into South and Southeast Texas. The stronger storms will be capable of producing microbursts with winds up to 50 MPH along with locally heavy rain.

High temperatures will climb into the 90s as an average across Texas this afternoon. Heat index values across coastal regions will approach 100 degrees. Far West Texas will actually likely see triple digit temperatures this afternoon as things heat up. Those who end up near storms will see outflow winds cool temperatures off into the 80s.
