Tornado Watch until 10 PM for West Texas & Permian Basin

A tornado watch has been issued for West Texas and the Permian Basin until 10 PM CT. Thunderstorm development is underway on the Texas/New Mexico border and we’ll continue to see those storms intensify as they move east. The strongest storms this afternoon may be capable of producing tennis-ball size hail, damaging wind gusts up to 70 MPH, and a few tornadoes. Storms will eventually grow into a cluster or squall line by early evening as they move east towards Northwest Texas and the Big Country. At that point the primary severe weather hazard will be damaging wind gusts of 60-70 MPH with the strongest cells.
