Severe Weather Chances Today through Saturday

Thunderstorm development is expected by late afternoon across parts of the South Plains, Permian Basin, and Southwest Texas. A few severe storms are expected in West Texas with the possibility of large hail and gusty winds. The tornado threat will remain quite marginal. Another cluster of thunderstorms may form in Mexico and move into Southwest Texas around Del Rio late this afternoon with gusty winds, hail, and very heavy rain.

The chance for rain will increase tonight as warm air advection with associated southeast winds bring more moisture in the Gulf of Mexico. That moisture will stream northward into the Central United States ahead of a strong storm system. Rain chances will continue into Friday along with a chance of a few severe storms in Northwest Texas. Severe weather along with rain is expected on Saturday as well – but we’ll talk more about that once we get into Friday.
