1145AM Severe Weather Update

CF3ZVQtUsAAtDRC

A line of strong to severe thunderstorms extends from Vernon south to Throckmorton, Breckenridge, Cisco, to west of Brownwood to Eden. This line is moving east at about 30 MPH. Damaging straight-line winds is a significant threat with this line and there have been wind gusts of 60 to 75 MPH. The line of storms will approach the D/FW Metroplex after 1 PM from the west. We’re also watching for signs of additional discrete thunderstorm development east of the line in Central Texas. Should we see discrete storms develop they would have an enhanced tornado threat.

Thunderstorms are also underway in the Hill Country. Most are currently sub-severe with 40 MPH winds and frequent cloud to ground lightning. However they are dumping heavy rain resulting in a flash flood threat. As you might expect flooding is a real concern again today with very saturated soils. It will not take much rain to cause problems in a hurry with flooding.
