The Storm Prediction Center has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch until 10 PM for Northeast Texas southwest into Central Texas. The watch does not include the D/FW Metroplex as storms are expected to fire up just south and east of D/FW within a few hours. The main forcing mechanism for thunderstorm initiation will be a cold front that is now pushing through D/FW. Behind the front winds will become northwesterly. The primary threat with the strongest storms will be large hail up to the size of tennis balls with the initial supercell storms. As the storms congeal into a squall line the threat for the very large hail will lower with an increased threat for straight-line winds over 60 MPH.
