An abundance of moisture will pool along a stationary front across South and Southeast Texas this weekend. This stationary front will provide an area of lift which will promote precipitation. Widespread heavy rains are expected from later today through Sunday across Southwest, South, Deep South, Southeast, and East Texas in addition to the Texas Hill Country and Brazos Valley. Widespread rain accumulations of 1.5 to 4 inches will be possible. Isolated heavier rain totals up to 6 and possibly even 8 inches will be possible. Most of South-Central into Southeast and East Texas have received several inches of rain this month. The ground won’t be able to absorb as much water as we saw with previous rain events. Anything over 3-4 inches cold certainly create a runoff issue and result in flash flooding. A Flash Flood Watch is in effect later today through late Saturday Night or in some cases Sunday for Southwest Texas, South-Central Texas, Deep South Texas, portions of Central Texas, Southeast Texas, and East Texas.

…A FLASH FLOOD WATCH IS IN EFFECT FOR THE BIG BEND…DAVIS/APACHE
MOUNTAINS…MARFA PLATEAU…PRESIDIO VALLEY AND LOWER TRANS PECOS
BEGINNING TONIGHT THROUGH THE DAY SATURDAY…

.AN UPPER LEVEL STORM SYSTEM TO OUR WEST WILL LIFT ACROSS THE AREA
TONIGHT AND SATURDAY. WIDESPREAD HEAVY RAIN WILL DEVELOP ACROSS
NORTHERN MEXICO AND THE PRESIDIO VALLEY TONIGHT AND SPREAD EAST
AND NORTH DURING THE DAY SATURDAY. A SATURATED GROUND DUE TO
RECENT RAINS AND MORE HEAVY RAIN WILL INCREASE THE POTENTIAL FOR
FLASH FLOODING. IN GENERAL…RAINFALL OF 1 TO 2 INCHES WITH LOCALLY
HIGHER AMOUNTS WILL BE POSSIBLE. HEAVY RAIN WILL LIKELY PRODUCE
RUNOFF RESULTING IN FLASH FLOODING OF AREAS PRONE TO FLOODING.
RAINFALL SHOULD END BY SATURDAY EVENING…HOWEVER AREAS OF
FLOODING MAY CONTINUE INTO EARLY NEXT WEEK.

WILL BE AT RISK OF BEING IMPACTED WITH ROADS POSSIBLY IMPASSABLE
IN SOME LOCATIONS. THE HEAVIEST RAINFALL IS EXPECTED THIS

* RAPID RUNOFF FROM HEAVY RAINFALL WILL LIKELY RESULT IN FLASH
FLOODING OF CREEKS AND STREAMS…LOW WATER CROSSINGS…AND
URBAN AREAS NORMALLY SUBJECT TO FLOODING. RECENT RAINFALL
ALONG AND EAST OF INTERSTATE 35 OVER THE PAST FEW WEEKS HAS
LED TO SATURATED SOILS WHICH MAY CAUSE FLASH FLOODING TO OCCUR
WITH LESS RAINFALL THAN USUAL…POSING AN ELEVATED THREAT TO

ACROSS THE WATCH AREA. PRECEDENT SATURATED GROUND WILL INHIBIT
RAINFALL TO DRAIN INTO THE LOWER SOIL LEVELS…INCREASING THE
THREAT FOR ENHANCED RUNOFF LEADING TO FLOODING.

* POTENTIAL IMPACTS OF FLOODING WOULD BE WATER OVER ROADWAYS AND
SWOLLEN RIVERS AND THEIR TRIBUTARIES COMING OUT OF BANKS.

…FLASH FLOOD WATCH IS IN EFFECT FOR PORTIONS OF NORTHEAST
TEXAS…FOR DEEP EAST TEXAS AND FOR NORTHWEST LOUISIANA FROM 4 PM
CDT TONIGHT UNTIL 7 AM SUNDAY MORNING…

.THE COMBINATION OF RICH DEEP LAYER MOISTURE…A STALLED FRONTAL
BOUNDARY AND A SLOW MOVING UPPER TROUGH WILL RESULT IN A LARGE
AREA OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS DEVELOPING LATER TODAY AND
CONTINUING INTO SATURDAY DAY AND NIGHT ACROSS THE REGION. SOILS
ARE STILL SATURATED AND MANY RIVERS AND STREAMS ARE STILL NEAR OR
ABOVE FLOOD STAGE DUE TO OTHER HEAVY RAINFALL EVENTS DURING THE
LAST FEW WEEKS. THESE CONDITIONS COMBINED WITH AN ADDITIONAL TWO TO
FOUR INCHES OF RAINFALL MAY LEAD TO A RENEWED THREAT FOR FLASH
FLOODING OVER THE WEEKEND.

LEADING TO A THREAT FOR FLASH FLOODING.
