Snow in the Panhandle; Freezing Rain in D/FW & Austin

Light snow is falling across the Texas Panhandle early this morning. We do note some of the snow does have banding elements which could cause some locally heavier snow. This activity is moving east/northeast and is associated with a piece of upper level energy moving across the region. Significant snow accumulations are not expected and we could see 1 to 2 inches of additional snow thorough this morning.

We have areas of light freezing rain across Central Texas this morning Austin is sitting just below freezing with the freezing line just north/northwest of San Antonio. We have seen icy bridges and roads across parts of Austin and Central Texas this morning due to the light freezing drizzle. This activity is not detectable on radar but has been visually confirmed. Watch for ice on elevated surfaces this morning. Temperatures will rise above freezing later today and end the issues in Central Texas.

Fairly widespread sleet and freezing rain is falling across North Texas including in the D/FW Metroplex. Light accumulations of ice will be possible this morning. While significant accumulations are not expected the thin layer of ice will likely make travel conditions even more hazardous. Temperatures will rise above freezing later today and road conditions will start improving. Drizzle will remain possible throughout the day but once we get above freezing it’ll simply be ‘drizzle’ versus any frozen precipitation.
