Evening Notes on Freezing Rain Potential Sunday Night

For those who have a valentine I hope you had a good night! For those who don’t… well thats what Netflix is for! I know most folks are out enjoying the nice weather tonight so I’ll keep this update short and sweet. For 98 percent you won’t be dealing with any freezing rain tomorrow night. However extreme Northeast Texas, mainly around Texarkana into Southeast Oklahoma and Arkansas, could be facing a more significant threat for accumulating ice. The National Weather Service in Shreveport is forecasting Texarkana to receive up to a quarter inch of freezing rain accumulation Sunday night into Monday morning. We’ll see how things work out tonight into tomorrow with some forecast adjustments likely. With that amount of ice travel will likely become hazardous around Texarkana tomorrow night into Arkansas. Further west along US-82 into North/Northwest Texas accumulation amounts will be much lower with only a trace of ice possible on elevated surfaces. We may also see a trace of ice in Northwest Texas and the northern Concho Valley. This will be a low-impact event with a majority of impacts expected in Arkansas where a major ice storm is possible with power outages.
