Reinforcing Shot of Cold Air Arriving Today

Let’s start off by saying this is going to be one of those January days in Texas where it will actually feel like winter. A few lucky folks in the south will warm up briefly through early afternoon before another cold front drops them back down to where the rest of Texas will be sitting today. Overall this is not a difficult forecast with only light chances of a passing shower across the Rio Grande and coastal areas today. Skies will be mostly cloudy to overcast with winds out of the north (except in South Texas where they’ll become northerly late this afternoon). Temperatures are going to struggle to rise today as cold air advection and overcast skies keep old man Winter in charge.

Tonight will be cold across the state as continued cold air advection helps drop temperatures down into the teens in the Panhandle. 20s can be expected from the Davis and Alpine Mountains east into the Hill Country while 30s will prevail across Central and East Texas. Folks in Deep South Texas and the Rio Grande Valley will drop into the upper 40s which is still cool for them but not like the cold they saw last week when some areas saw sleet. We won’t see any of that today or tonight.
