* Freezing Rain is falling from the Alpine Mountains into the Concho Valley and the western half of North Texas including Alpine, Big Lake, Odessa, San Angelo, Abilene, Mineral Wells, Brownwood, Granbury, and Gainesville. Some of the freezing rain is falling in moderate rates with some locations receiving new ice accumulations of 0.05 to 0.10 inches per hour. Considering 0.01″ of ice accumulation is enough to make roadways slick and hazardous those are significant accumulations. This will continue through the mid-morning.

* Temperatures have come down about one degree in the D/FW metroplex since 2 AM resulting in the freezing line now extending into Denton and Tarrant counties. Icy bridges are possible in both Denton and Fort Worth will McKinney and Dallas remain above freezing (barely). Its possible we could see patchy ice on bridges in D/FW through the morning hours before temperatures rise above freezing.

* An area of rain has developed from Eagle Pass to Uvalde and Kerrville. Temperatures have dropped to freezing in Boerne and Kerrville where additional ice may form on Interstate 10 (and where travel conditions are already slick and hazardous). Be cautious if driving northwest of San Antonio.

* Rain is falling across East and Southeast Texas this morning. Temperatures are well above freezing and no winter weather will occur. Regardless roads are wet and it’s cold out there. If you don’t have to be out I suggest you stay inside where it’s warm and dry.

All activity across Texas is moving northeast and will continue to do so this morning. By 10 AM warm air advection will cause temperatures to begin rising across the state which will result in the freezing line retreating into Northwest Texas to Central Oklahoma. Any freezing rain falling in western North Texas this morning will change over to plain rain by early afternoon as temperatures climb above freezing. The result will also be an improvement in travel conditions.
