1245AM Winter Weather & Ice Update

2015-01-10_0-32-45

* An area of freezing rain and sleet is moving across parts of the Hill Country early this morning. It extends from Rocksprings and Junction east to Kerrville and the western fringe of the San Antonio Metro. This area of precipitation is moving northeast.

* There have been a couple reports of light ice accumulation including in Bandera and near New Braunfels. Keep in mind it only takes one hundredth of an inch of ice accumulation to turn a bridge into a skating rink. That’s definitely a threat this morning where precipitation is falling and temperatures are below freezing.

* There are patches of sleet/ice on Interstate 10 near Kerrville where temperatures are below freezing and sleet is falling. The best way to keep up with road conditions is at drivetexas.org

* While not showing up on the radar there has been areas of drizzle and freezing drizzle reported across the southern Concho Valley and South-Central Texas. Remember that when temperatures are below 32F drizzle will leave accumulation as a glaze of ice on elevated/exposed surfaces.
