Heavy Snow Moving into Northern Panhandle

2015-01-03_2-36-58

Let me start of by saying road conditions across most of the Texas Panhandle are snow-covered and hazardous. I wouldn’t recommend traveling this morning until crews can get out and get roads plowed and sanded. WIth that said the good news is the snow will be moving out of Amarillo within the next 30 minutes. Snow is now falling from Dalhart to Dumas east to Pampa. Snow will continue across the northern Panhandle for the next few hours before quickly moving north. It looks like we could continue to see snow across the northeastern Panhandle through mid-Morning with light accumulations of snow.

Something interesting to note is that the High Resolution Rapid Refresh (HRRR) is bringing another round of light snow across the northern Texas Panhandle this afternoon. If that were to occur there could be some light accumulation of snow again later this afternoon. We’ll keep an eye on it but I wouldn’t be surprised if we had a wrap-around band of snow move across the Panhandle this afternoon.
