A powerful high pressure has set up shop across the Central United States which has ushered in arctic air across the Plains. An even more powerful cold front will arrive Tuesday with a reinforcing shot of arctic air. Wednesday morning may end up being the coldest night this week but tonight is going to be downright frigid across the northern half of Texas as clear skies and light winds allow for excellent radiational cooling. One cool thing about this cold airmass is visibility will be excellent for anyone wanting to see a few meteors in tonight’s sky.

Temperatures will continue to quickly drop tonight and by Monday morning the northern half of Texas will have temperatures in the teens to lower twenties. San Angelo and Waco are forecast to drop to 19°F with the immediate D/FW Metroplex staying a tad warmer. Regardless those in rural areas or typical cool spots will likely drop into the low to mid teens tonight. Make sure you have your pipes protected, pets indoors, and plants ready to go. Deep South Texas will see comparatively warmer temperatures with mostly cloudy skies. Monday and Tuesday will see temperatures closer to our averages for January before our next surge of arctic air pushes into the state on Tuesday night.
