Invest 91 (Colin) – Discussion #1

Good Morning,
After a period of inactivity the Atlantic Basis is heating up once again. We have been monitoring the potential for a storm to develop in the Eastern Atlantic Ocean. It would be the first of the year to develop in the more traditional zone for long track hurricanes. Overnight the storm developed and has up to the time of this posting maintained a strong area of convection, some of which is very intense. Many models are now developing this system into Hurricane Colin. The track is uncertain but it appears this storm will have an impact on the United States in some form within the next 10 days and this storm has the potential to become a high-impact storm. Please stay tuned as we most likely get a Tropical Depression sometime today. Below are a few associated graphics pulled early this morning. The IR image shows a concentrated area of thunderstorm activity, which is quite organized and has the potential to develop a Tropical Depression at some point today or tonight. Below is the intensity estimates coming off the 06Z models. Take these with a grain of salt, but it shows the general trend. I’ll have another update later this evening.
