Nice Warm-Up This Weekend – Another Cold Front Mid-Week

This weekend will be quite pleasant compared to the past couple of days.  Today’s highs will be closer to normal for this time of the year, and Sunday’s highs will end up quite a bit above normal.  The western half of the state will see sunny skies, while the eastern half of the state will be dealing with cloud cover today and again tomorrow.  Slight chances for rain and drizzle return overnight for parts of central and southcentral Texas, and eastern Texas will see slight chances return on Sunday.   Overall, not a bad weekend forecast for mid-December!

Looking ahead…we’ll see a weakish cold front make a push into the panhandle and northern Texas late Sunday, but it will not hang around for long and will have only minimal impacts on temperatures.  By mid-week, a stronger cold front is forecasted to arrive which will likely make it as far south as south central Texas before quickly exiting the state by Friday. Fortunately with this next front, forecast models are keeping the bulk of the coldest air off to our north.  While too far out for much confidence, we could see another intrusion of arctic air next weekend which will bring single digit temps back into the forecast for parts of the panhandle, and teens and 20s across northern Texas.  We’ll have more info on that next week as the forecast continues to develop.
