Your Saturday Forecast – A Gorgeous Fall Day!

We have a gorgeous day in the forecast with pleasant temps, scattered clouds and little in the way of rainfall expected today.  Highs are expected to reach the low to mid 80s this afternoon, with low 90s expected across deep south Texas.  We may see a few sprinkles this morning across southwest and western north Texas, but aside from that, pretty much zero chances for rain across the state today. A perfect day for enjoying the outdoors or visiting the State Fair of Texas which opened yesterday!

A look ahead…Next Tuesday through Thursday will bring chances of rain, and possibly a few severe storms, back into the forecast as a cold front approaches.  While we’ve been enjoying some nice dry air across most of the state the past several days, this will change starting tomorrow as a trough of low pressure begins to approach to our west.  South winds will continue to pull gulf moisture up into the region through the early part of the week, and we’ll also see the return of the dryline setting up across west Texas and the panhandle region.  This combined with lift from the approaching upper level trough could bring a threat of severe storms to northwest Texas and western Oklahoma on Tuesday, and far north Texas and central/eastern Oklahoma on Wednesday.  A fairly stout capping inversion in place across west and northwest Texas on Tuesday will likely limit the development of severe weather on Tuesday; however, should the cap be breakable, supercell thunderstorms with a threat for large hail, damaging winds and perhaps a tornado or two is possible.  Thunderstorms are also possible Wednesday, but details remain unclear as to what extent they will impact north Texas.  Our next cold front looks to finally push through late Thursday into Friday which will shift rain and storm chances south.  Way too out ahead of us to get into much more detail, but we’ll continue to monitor all of this and keep you updated as the forecast refines over the next several days.  2016-10-01_6-42-34
