Wet Weather Pattern Across Southeast TX and Western TX This Weekend

The forecast highlights for today involve the chance for heavy rain across parts of southeast and coastal Texas today, and the chance for continued shower and thunderstorm activity across parts of the panhandle and west Texas.  We will also see another stretch of below average temperatures this weekend and into next week.  For southeast Texas, a couple of weak upper level lows are spinning just offshore and are expected to wobble across the region today and tomorrow bringing chances of heavy rainfall for much of the region.  We’ll likely see a bit of a break in the rain this afternoon, but another round will be likely tonight through Sunday. Accumulations exceeding 2 inches is likely for some, especially nearer the coast where pockets of even higher accumulations are possible. Flash Flood Watches may be issued later today as the forecast details across the area are refined. Either way, it looks like a muggy and wet weekend for upper coastal residents including the Beaumont, Houston, and Galveston areas.

For western Texas and the panhandle region, a continuous flow of moisture across the region, coupled with an upper level disturbance sitting just west of the region, will lead to daily chances for showers and storms through the weekend and into early next week.  Storm activity will begin by early to mid-afternoon with numerous scattered showers popping up and producing brief periods of locally heavy rainfall. The main threats will be brief torrential rainfall, gusty downburst winds and lightning. Sunday into Monday look to have the most coverage of storms across the region with overall accumulations generally less than 1.5 inches; however, some areas under the more robust storms will see isolated pockets of higher rainfall amounts.

For the remainder of the state not mentioned above, widespread scattered showers will be possible this afternoon as we reach peak daytime heating.
